Coping With The Holidays (Day 2)

I am an avid avoider of Christmas songs in November. I simply don't understand how we can jump from Thanksgiving one day and right into the Christmas season the next day. There's still one month between now and Christmas! But, as soon as December falls upon us, I crank up my Christmas playlist whenever I can. The only downside of this is that by the time Christmas rolls around, I am jingled out and really don't care about six geese a-laying. By December 25th, I'm listening to the 200th Noel and there's no way I'm joyful and triumphant.

What can I do about avoiding staling Christmas carols?

It's no doubt that we have Christmas traditions. Mine include decorating the Christmas tree, hot chocolate by the fire, adventuring into the snow and baking. For each of these traditions, have a playlist ready that matches your activities. I would be bobbing around to "O Christmas Tree" , "Deck the Halls" and "Santa Baby" when it comes to decorating the tree. Spotify has a playlist specifically on baking cookies for the holidays which I will definitely get familiar with this year. Playlists can be pre-made by music streaming apps or can be created by you. You can also listen to the same song but in various renditions.

I also love celebrity Christmas songs. I fell in love with Hilary Duff's Santa Clause Lane Christmas album in the 6th grade and listening to it brings me right back to the days my grandparents lived with us in a crammed apartment. It was the first (and last) Christmas I spent with my grandparents and it left such an impact on me. Celebrities love creating Christmas albums with new work and remakes. Listen to your favourite artist create their own spin to Christmas classics for a different take on your favourites.

Want to take it up a notch? Why not invite carollers into your homes? The GTA is crawling with carollers in the Christmas spirit who provide a unique experience in enjoying Christmas music. Two years back, we had carollers visit our home and it gave me a permanent smile for the day. They are super enthusiast and super friendly, you feel like your spirits are truly lifted.
