Welcome back from the holidays y'all! I hope you're all feeling relaxed, refreshed and rebooted, ready to take on the new year! January has always been one of my favourite months of the year. It is a representation of a fresh start, new beginnings, and hope for growth. If you recall from my earlier post, Coping With the Holidays (Day 8) , you'll remember that,

"as a child, I used to take inventory of my good deeds to bad deeds ratio. Since Christmas was around the corner, I would always be curious of whether or not I made it onto the nice list. It was no different every year, I was convinced that I was definitely on the naughty list. At that conclusion, I would make it my sole goal to ensure that for the next Christmas season, I would surely be on the nice list. Here we are, 20 years later, and I'm still not convinced that I would make it to the nice list."

My habit of creating goals at the beginning of the year still holds true. I take a few minutes to think about how I would like to grow in the next 12 months, put pen to paper, and make an honest effort every day to put these goals into action. Then, in December, I take a read of my journal post in January to see how far I have come. Most goals are usually accomplished, while some were completely forgotten. The point is, when you put pen to paper and your mind into action, things happen.

There are many reasons why goals fail. Reasons range from wavering motivation, lack of commitment and direction, insecurity in your abilities, having too many goals and so on and so forth. If you're having trouble coming up with goals or not sure how to go about achieving them, come check us out on January 25th, 2018 at 6:30 at Fairview Library. In partnership with Aadhya Empower Yourself, Empathic Counselling Centre brings you our Goal Setting for 2018 Workshop.
