Frequently Asked Questions
Got a question?
Counselling and psychotherapy is an extremely personal journey that can, at times, feel overwhelming and intimidating. We understand that you may have some questions that you would like answered before deciding how to proceed. Here are a few of our frequently asked questions to help get you started.
Is counselling effective?

There's no definitive answer for this question. It depends on several factors: your motivation for change, your consistency in implementing what was discussed in session, the therapeutic relationship and your commitment to the process. When these factors have perfectly aligned, you can anticipate change.

How long is a session?

Your allocated appointment is 1-hour in duration. However, 50 minutes are spent in therapy and the remaining 10 minutes are spent on administrative work (collecting fees and booking your next appointment)

Where is your office located?

The office is located in Scarborough at McCowan and 401 across Scarborough Town Centre

Do I need a referral?

No, a referral is not required. Simply call us to book an appointment

Is this confidential?

Yes, what is discussed in session is confidential. However, there are some instances in which confidentiality can be broken. The details of this will be explained during your telephone consultation or initial meeting.

What are your fees?

We offer our clients a sliding scale, $125-$150/session. The fee is determined by the client's financial situation.

Do you offer free consultations?

Absolutely! We find that the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in any change. Our consultations give us an opportunity to meet, discuss your concerns and determine if we make a good fit. Once comfortable, you can proceed to begin the therapeutic process.

Will my insurance company cover counselling?

We recommend that before your initial visit, speak to your insurance company regarding your coverage. Most insurances cover psychological services, however, the specifics vary from individual to individual. Discuss with your therapist for more options.

What if I do not have insurance coverage?

At the end of each session, you will     receive a receipt for the fees you have paid. You can claim psychological and psychotherapy services as medical expenses when you file your taxes.

What treatment modality do you use?

Our preference is to use an eclectic approach to therapy. What this means is that we like to incorporate a variety of different therapies into one in order to provide a holistic experience. However, our main modality is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with elements of mindfulness.

How many sessions are required?

The number of sessions completed are entirely up to you. This depends on how well you are progressing throughout your change journey.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept exact cash, credit card, Health Spending Accounts and e-transfers (expected before your session and deposited after). We  bill some insurance companies directly. Please visit our FEES page for more details
