Relatable Psychotherapy Memes - Part 2

Our blog on relatable psychotherapy memes was such a hit, we decided, why not make Part 2? This edition is EXTRA special because it was written by the newest member of the team, Madeleine Samuel. Maddie is a graduate from Queens University and has a special interest in psychology and working with youth. I can’t think of a better person to give us her two cents on these hilarious psychotherapy memes. Take it away, Maddie!

“Laughter is the best medicine”.

Ever heard of that one? As we transition from summer into the colder fall months, we can all use a bit of a mood booster. One of the best ways to do that - looking at memes of course!

Here are some very relatable therapy memes. I had so much fun finding these and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Raise your hand if you can relate. *Raises both hands*. It’s like when you’re a little kid and you’re told to do one thing, and you automatically want to do the opposite. If you’ve ever been told to “empty your mind” or “quiet your mind”, you know exactly how difficult it can be. But, the positive side is that once we learn how to use this technique, it can work wonders!

This one made me laugh, but then I realized it’s also a good reminder. I can sometimes feel embarrassed or frustrated when I am emotional, but it’s okay to cry if you are feeling sad! Therapy is a safe space to express your emotions, no matter what that looks like. And usually, you’ll feel a lot better after letting it all out!

I don’t think I have ever related to something more. LOL. I am guilty of trying to distract myself with Instagram, TikTok, Netflix, online shopping, you name it. Sometimes distraction can be a helpful tool when dealing with stress, but more often than not, it just prevents me from using other valuable coping strategies! Therapy is a great tool to learn some of these strategies and express yourself in a safe place. Listen to your brain - go to therapy!

“You are your own harshest critic”. Anyone else relate? I sure do. Sometimes, the way we speak to ourselves is often a big jump from the way we speak to others. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love - with respect and kindness. Spongebob has the right idea here - be nicer to yourself!

This one made me LOL because of how accurate it is. We get the courage to stand up to that little voice in our head, and then it comes back even harder! The good news is - that’s what therapy is for! Learning how to manage this little voice and giving yourself the tools to overcome it. Continue to stand up to that little voice and let it know who is in charge!

Ending it off with a classic line from JVN. Have you ever started crying and not known why? Me too. Sometimes, just hearing the word “hi” is enough to open the floodgates. LOL. But like one of the previous memes said, it’s okay to cry when you are feeling sad! Even when you least expect it, emotion can sneak up on you. But I promise, your therapist is there to help you work through those tears! You’ve got this!
